Hawaiian Word of the Week: Hau'oli La Ho'omakika'i

For me, Thanksgiving these days is less about celebrating the historical dinner, but instead taking time to be grateful for what we have. We have lost so much in the last two years, it is easy to focus on what we don’t have instead of what is right in front of us.

Hau’oli La Ho’omakika’i is pronounced how-oh-lee la ho-o-ma-ee-kah-ee. All the vowels are pronounced.

If you break the phrase down

Hau’oli = happy, glad

Lā = day

Ho’omaika’i= to thank, bless, render thanks

At She Lives Aloha, we will be taking Thursday off, but you can expect that we will be busy filling orders all weekend. Enjoy the holiday with your ohana.
