Hawaiian Word of the Week:  hulali

I like things that shimmer and shine…things that are sparkly always seem to grab my attention. Maybe that’s why I’m so attracted to the ocean, particularly during sunset. All I see is water that is shimmering or hulali (pronounced hoo-lah-lee). That steady glow of light on the water puts me in a rather zen state where I find I do my best thinking.

22 years ago today, all of us on the West Coast woke up to horrific events. It still boggles my mind that I experienced such a historic moment. We all remember where we were, what we felt, how it impacted us. It is important to give ho’ohanohano (pronounced: ho-oh-ha-no-ha-no) or honor to those who lost their lives and to the first responders who were suddenly thrown into a situation that no one would have ever dreamed.

I have always liked to work hard…..to the point that I actually don’t even know how to relax and take some down time. I have this energy that I feel I need to tap into and the only way to release it is by working: my job, cleaning my house, volunteer work, writing “Mindful Mondays” and countless other things that my ‘to do’ list holds.
