Hawaiian Phrase of the Week: Mele Kalikimaka
/With Christmas coming just before our weekly Mindful Monday posts/emails, we thought would would revisit the greetings on the Hawaiian Islands this time of year: Mele Kalikimaka (pronounced: meh-leh kah-lee-kee-mah-kah) or Merry Christmas!
We have heard this phrase quite a bit thanks to Bing Crosby and his Christmas song, Mele Kalikimaka. But in doing my research for what to write this week, I came across an interesting video that discusses how “Merry Christmas” became “Mele Kalikimaka” in the Hawaiian language.
All of us at She Lives Aloha wish you all a Mele Kalikimaka and Happy Holidays with your friends and family.
