Hawaiian Word of the Week: Maluhia

Sometimes the world can seem…well, overwhelming. I think for so many of us we try to find a sense of peace, or “maluhia” (pronounced: mah-loo-hee-ah). Hawaii brings that sense of peace for a lot of us and probably the reason why we all find ourselves wanting to go back as often as we can.

One of my favorite ways to gain maluhia is a nice massage or spa day. Feeling my muscles relax helps me to take that break from my overactive mind, the sights and sounds that are all around that are overstimulating, and stresses of our everyday life. When I am in Hawaii, I always treat myself to a massage…preferably one that is outdoors to try to be one with nature.

When on the mainland, I find myself listening to Hawaiian music. If you remember, earlier this summer, I shared the She Lives Aloha Spotify playlist. This is on repeat at my house.
