Hawaiian Word of the Week: 'Ono

I was a bit surprised to see that we haven’t used ‘Ono (ō-nō) as one of our words of the week before. We use the word ‘onolicious when we are talking about the foods of Hawaii.

In the dictionary that we often use ‘ono is described as “delicious, tasty, savory; to relish, crave; deliciousness, flavor, savor.” .Another expression is “Ono ka puʻu, tasty to the palate and the literal translation is the throat craves.”

When everyone returns to the islands, there are always foods that you can’t wait to savor. Whether it be the malasadas from Leonard’s, the Foodland spam musubi, or the fresh poke. We can’t bring all those foods to your door, but we try to bring you some of the flavors that remind you of how good life can be.
