Hawaiian Word of the Week: Pele

On my trip last week to the Big Island of Hawaii, I had the opportunity to visit the volcanoes. Looking at the active volcano reminded me of the legend of Pele (pronounced: peh-leh), the Goddess of Fire.

The story is that Pele came to Hawaii from Tahiti after being banished by her father for her temper and seducing her sister’s husband (scandal!). Known for her passionate and fiery nature, you hear many stories of power and destruction….similar to the volcanoes….when you visit the islands.

But a passion and a fiery nature don’t have to be associated with destruction. If you might have guessed, I am incredibly passionate about Hawaii and She Lives Aloha is result of that passion.

How are you like Pele? What are you passionate about?
