Hawaiian Word of the Week: Keiki
/Children bring so much joy into our lives. The laughter, the fun and even the tears connect us to them in a way that gives us perspective. When I am in Hawaii though, I watch the “keiki” (pronounced: kay-kee) or children on the island and watch how for them, living life is to be in the moment.
Ohana (family) is the core to Hawaiians. Keiki are a big part of ohana. Keiki bring an innocence to the family. Their view on life is simple and pure. Have you watched Hawaiian keiki play at the beach? I find myself smiling as I watch as they splash through the water, chasing each other along the sand… enjoying their own paradise. As an adult now with bills to pay and a million other responsibilities, I find myself wanting to be like the keiki….carefree and enjoying the simple pleasures in life.
What do you do that brings out your inner keiki?
