Kristin's Five Favorite Kauai Spots

Another She Lives Aloha ohana member, Kristin B., was in Kauai at the same time as SLA co-founder Vanessa Fiske. Kristin was there were husband and six-year-old son and spent many days on the North Shore. While they shared many of the same experiences, Kristin had some of her own favorites to share with us.

  1. Limahuli Garden & Preserve National Tropical Botanical Garden

Kauai has three beautiful tropical gardens on the island. Situated in the North Shore, Limahuli is home to dozens of endangered plants and birds found nowhere else on earth, plus it highlights native and culturally-significant species in an authentic Hawaiian landscape.

  2. Surfing at Hanalei Beach

Hanalei is the best place to start to learn to surf. It might get a little crowded, but there are plenty of other helpful surfers out there to help you know when is the best time to catch a wave.

  3. Enjoying the amenities and friendliness of the Poipu Beach Athletic Club

Membership is often included in many condo and house rentals. We were pleasantly surprised at the availability of tennis lessons as well as kids camps. We liked to enjoy a refreshing drink from Cabanas while our son took tennis lessons.

  4. Ohana time at Poipu Beach

We were spoiled because it was just minutes away from where we were staying. There’s so much to do for everyone. From the covered picnic tables to the playground to the easy snorkeling, it was easy to spend an entire day here—or run down for a quick sunset.

  5. Discovering Mahaulepu Beach/Makauwahi Cave Reserve

Drive past the Grand Hyatt on a dirt road and you’ll discover this hidden gem. It was totally deserted except for the seals sunning themselves & the renters of Gillin’s Beach House.
