Three Ways to Kick Off Your Socially-Distant Summer

As the school year drew to a close, our household began looking for new ways to entertain the young ones throughout the summer. One idea that we had was to set up a twice weekly virtual coloring session between our 4-year-old and her great grandma. Our little one became familiar with Zoom classes when her school transitioned to distance learning in March. So we figured we’d try a virtual coloring date starting this week. Our hope is that this time will generate hours of enjoyment and ultimately many beautiful memories.

That’s what inspired this week’s Hawaiian phrase, “e aha ana 'oe?” [eh ah-ha ah-nah `oy] or “what are you doing?” Summer has a way of inviting us out and about with family and friends. While we won’t be doing so in typical ways this summer, may you discover new ways to forge quality time with loved ones. Consider scheduling a weekly virtual date with a family member who may be feeling isolated and could use a regular cheering up. Or schedule a regular virtual happy hour or dinner time catch-up sesh with friends. Or check in with a neighbor today and ask, “how are you?” Our hope is that these moments of connection fill your soul this week and all season long.
