Hawaiian Word of the Week: Mana'olana

I have to admit…this time of year is my favorite. Flowers are blooming, plants are waking up and it just feels like there is a sense of hope or “mana’olana” (pronounced: mah-nah-oh-lah-nah) in the air.

This year, however, seems to be especially hard to feel mana’olana. News of senseless killings, attacks on innocent people walking down the street, robberies, senseless wars ….it can feel so overwhelming. I thought many times “What in the world is HAPPENING…..How did we get here?” And then at the same time, I see my nephew graduating high school, so excited for his next chapter…my niece giving birth to her first child ….and remember that there is a lot of good out there too. I just have to remember that good in the world…and add more where and when I can.

What gives you mana’olana this year?
