Hawaiian Word of the Week: Wailele
One of the most spectacular sites we often see in Hawaii are the waterfalls or “wailele” (pronounced: why-leh-leh) in Hawaiian.
We don’t see a lot of waterfalls in the cities and that is part of what attracts us to them. Their force and the sense of calm…I become entranced when I visit a wailele. Wailele symbolize “flow”, whether it is the flow of the water or the flow of our lives. I think that is why I am so drawn to Hawaii and the wailele on the islands. For me, the flow I feel in Hawaii is the flow of aloha and I am reminded to continue to have aloha flow through me even when I am home on the mainland.
How do wailele make you feel?
