Hawaiian Word of the Week: Ho`o makaukau
This week’s Hawaiian phrase is ho`o makaukau [hoh oh mah cow cow], meaning “to prepare.” Our household just learned that the schools in our district will start next month in full distance learning mode. This news prompted all sorts of preparations on our end. As we all learn what this fall has in store for us (or even what the next month has in store as conditions change day by day), we can try to prepare the best we can. But as we prepare for the day, week, month or season ahead, let’s not forget to live in the here and now.
