Hawaiian Word of the Week: Ka Ma'alahi
Life can be so crazy and complicated at times…overwhelming so. I think one of the things that I love about Hawaii is the aloha and the simplicity, or ka ma’alahi (pronounced: kah mah-ah-lah-hee) of life on the islands.
As I get ready for my annual trip to Kauai, I think about what is ka ma’alahi about Kauai. I love that there aren’t big highways and that many roads are two lanes (and even one lane roads where much aloha is a requirement). I love all the greenery on the Garden Isle (as Kauai is known), letting me know there aren’t a lot of concrete buildings in my way, and I love the simplicity of the lines and curves of the flowers and the trees.
Do you look for the ka ma’alahi in life? What have you discovered?
