Hawaiian Word of the Week: paʻani
For some, it’s an annual vacation or day trips to the beach. For my family, summer looks like long sunny days spent outdoors. It’s bathing suits all day and scooting/biking/walking till the sun starts to set, running into other neighbors and striking up impromptu conversations and playdates. I love these days the best. Unplanned. Unstructured. Just naturally unfolding.
These boundless days of summer inspired our Hawaiian word of the week, pāʻani [pah-ah-knee], meaning “play.”
