Hawaiian Word of the Week: Huipu
Our Hawaiian word of the week is huipu [hoo-ee-poo], meaning “to mix or come together.” We’ve all found ourselves in a situation of isolation over these past months, making it challenging to meet up. Our household included. With the birth of our newborn, my parents, grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins would typically all have flown in from Hawaii to spend time with the little one (and help us sleep-deprived parents during these early days of round-the-clock feedings). But with the pandemic, it hasn’t been safe for them to hop on a plane to visit. So we’ve made do with calls (and virtual babysitting dates!) on FaceTime and birthday parties on Zoom.
How have you been connecting with family and friends while you’ve been sheltering in place? What’s worked? What hasn’t? We want to know!
