Run Aloha

With the upcoming San Francisco Aloha Run on September 22, I thought it was a good time to highlight other runs where you can get your Aloha on. Last year I ran it and then celebrated with my ohana at Aina, where I had a malasada birthday cake, which by the way is why I run. Too many delicious things to eat.

If you want to run on the mainland there are a couple of annual choices:

  • This coming Saturday in Long Beach is the Aloha Run, which also took place in San Diego the previous Sunday. I haven’t run this one yet, but it’s on my bucket list.

  • No dates yet, but the Pacific Northwest celebrates with four days of Aloha and includes a fun run in honor of Aunty Deva.

But if you really want an aloha run, pick a destination race. I’ve highlighted one for every month, just in case those can’t-pass-up airfares come around. I’ve picked a few for each island to help you plan your vacation. My husband and I have been doing that for years with the Sugar Mill Run in Kauai -- we came so close to placing in our age group that we keep going back to try again!

A little windy post-run, but we still went and enjoyed the free breakfast and music.

Did you know that the Honolulu Marathon is one of the largest in the United States?
